We’re the mecca of prep schools.
The city is home to three of the five top-rated private schools in the country and seven of the top 20, according to rankings published yesterday by Forbes.
The list — which was based largely on acceptance rates at Ivy League universities, MIT and Stanford over the past five years — was led by Trinity School on the Upper West Side, followed in order by Horace Mann in The Bronx, and Phillips Academy Andover in Massachusetts.
Other city schools named among the best of the preps — where annual tuition typically tops $30,000 — were the prestigious all-girls schools Brearley (No. 4), Spence (9) and Chapin (10), as well as stalwarts Collegiate (7) and Dalton (13).
“I think it’s great that we have so many at the top, [but] I’m not surprised it’s here,” said Victoria Goldman, who runs a city private-school admissions advisory firm, Education First. “This is a city of overachievers, and our private schools certainly reflect that.”
In addition to the college-acceptance rates, the other main factors in the rankings were student-to-faculty ratios, the percentage of faculty with advanced degrees and the size of a school’s endowment.
Top-ranked Trinity sent 42 percent of its graduates to the nation’s top 10 colleges over the past five years.
