A 7-year-old boy was attacked by a bear in a Westchester County backyard on Tuesday morning, according to local police.
The North Castle Police Department responded to a 911 call from the child’s parents who reported the bear attacked their child outside of their Hickory Kingdom Road home in Armonk around 11:15 a.m., police said in a statement.
The child suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken by EMS to Westchester Medical Center for treatment, cops said.
The bear remained in the backyard where the attack occurred and “continued to present a danger to first responders and area residents,” police said.
Police euthanized the bear and it was taken to the Westchester Health Department for testing.
The bear attacked the child in the backyard of a home in Armonk.
The bear was euthanized by officers and taken by the state Department of Environmental Conservation to the Westchester County Department of Health where it will be tested for rabies, according to the DEC.
