About 700 men and women — some with long “blue”-blood lines — took their first step to becoming cops Tuesday and were sworn in as new NYPD recruits.
Commissioner James O’Neill reminded newcomers gathered at the NYPD Academy in College Point, Queens, of the awesome responsibility that will follow six months of training.
He not-so-subtly reminded the future cops that taxpayers will have a keen eye on all their actions on the job.
“This job is an awesome responsibility,” he said. “You’ll be held to a higher standard than the average civilian.”
Pracifanie Holmes, a 22-year-old recent Long Island University grad, is now one of five family members who has worked for the NYPD — including her aunt, Assistant
Chief Wanita Holmes, now commanding patrol officer of Queens North.
Holmes also is the niece of deputy inspector Janice Holmes, commanding officer of the 100th Precinct.
“They started a legacy, to say the least,” she said.
