Nine people injured in a collision between a passenger van and a SUV on Staten Island have been hospitalized.

The force of the Monday afternoon accident sent the van full of handicapped adults careening into a utility pole.

The accident occurred at what residents described as a dangerous intersection at Genesse and Abingdon avenues. The intersection has only one stop sign.

Fire officials said the nine passengers were transported to Staten Island University Hospital. One was reported in serious condition on Monday.
