Firefighters responding to a report of a water leak found that what had burst in a Harlem apartment wasn’t a pipe but a pregnant woman’s water.

“I called 911 and said, ‘My wife, she is pregnant. Her water has broken,’ ” said Mahamadou Sylla, 36.

The 911 operator coded the Aug. 18 call as a water leak, so Ladder Co. 28 — armed with hooks, wrenches and flashlights but no medical gear — poured into the West 138th Street basement unit just after 9 a.m.

Sylla rushed them to the bathroom and pointed to his wife, Amina Morou.

“They were very surprised,” said Sylla. “They said, ‘What do you mean she’s pregnant? Where’s the leak?’ ”

The firefighters then called for an ambulance.

The couple’s second daughter, Koudjedji, was born at Harlem Hospital less than an hour later.

The FDNY has ordered more training for 911 operators.
