9/11 hero passes
Richard Sheirer, the former head of the Office of Emergency Management who helped guide New York City’s recovery after the Sept. 11 attacks, died yesterday of heart failure. He was 65.
Sheirer’s 30-year career included stints in the Police and Fire departments. Former Mayor Rudy Giuliani called him a “hero” for his service to New York.
