A 92-year-old woman died after she was found lying on a Queens street earlier this week — and the death appears to have been a murder, police sources said Wednesday.

Maria Fuertes was found early Monday at Liberty Avenue and 127th Street after a caller notified 911 just after midnight, the sources said. She was taken to Jamaica Hospital but couldn’t be saved.

Video from the location showed that she made physical contact with a man at the location and that both fell to the ground as a result, the sources said. After a few minutes, the male got to his feet and ran away.

“It’s probably going to be a homicide,” the source said.

The Medical Examiner’s Office ruled the case a Cause Unknown Pending Police Investigation because of bruises and fractures the victim suffered, police sources said.

A man who would only identify himself as Jay and said he was the manager of Bakewell bakery and restaurant down the street from the scene said police have a photo of the man believed to be involved.

“The police showed me an image from a video of a person of interest “He was a white male with a beard and tall. We want this person brought to justice if they did something to her,” Jay said, adding that Fuertes came to his store every night.

Neighbor Earal Andiappen, 32, said he has known the woman most of his life.

“She always has the same routine,” he said. “Back and forth in the neighborhood collecting bottles, feeding the cats, and walking to the deli. It don’t matter what time of day it is, she’s always outside.”

He said he spoke to the woman’s son the next day.

“He said he got off the bus at 1 a.m. and he went to the deli because he plays the lotto and chats with the workers,” Andiappen said. “Then someone ran in and said ‘Yo, that’s your mother out there on the floor.'”

“Then he came out and saw the ambulance using the defibrillator on her,” Andiappen said. “He said when he saw her, he saw some marks on her.”

The son told him that his mom appeared to be alive after workers used a defibrillator on her, but she later died at the hospital.

Another neighbor said Fuertes was known as the “cat lady.”

“She took care of a lot of cats,” the neighbor said. “My kids couldn’t even sleep they were up all night thinking about the cat lady. Everyone knows her in the neighborhood. It’s so sad.”
