Finally, financial relief for Bernie Madoff’s poorer victims.

Thousands of folks whose life savings were unknowingly invested with the Ponzi schemer could get the same tax breaks as his wealthier clients, Sen. Chuck Schumer said yesterday.

“That so many smaller investors, who may not have even known they were investing with Madoff, are not receiving the same assistance as direct investors is simply unfair,” he said.

The proposed legislation would provide tax relief to Madoffs’ feeder-fund victims. The Senate Subcommittee on Capital Markets is to discuss the bill tomorrow.
