Start spreading the news — he’s gone.

The Second Avenue Subway hardhat whose daily renditions of big-band hits won over construction-weary Upper East Siders pulled the plug on his popular act yesterday, with one last sidewalk-stopper in front of dozens of cheering people.

Gary Russo — a Local 40 ironworker with a voice like Frank Sinatra’s — is leaving Second Avenue to begin work on another MTA project.

“I won’t be attempting to bring [the act] elsewhere,” said Russo, whose lunch-break performances were meant to counter the near-constant sounds of heavy machinery and jackhammers at the $4 billion MTA project site. “It belongs here.”

About 75 fans — three time the norm — watched Russo’s final performance, which included renditions of Sinatra’s “New York, New York” and “My Way.”
