Atlantic City casinos have seized nearly $70,000 in jackpot winnings from compulsive gamblers who signed up for a voluntary ban but sneaked in to play anyway.
Under the rules of New Jersey’s self-exclusion list — often used by desperate gamblers as a last resort — winnings are subject to forfeiture if the ban is broken.
The seized money is used in part to fund treatment programs for gambling addiction.
