Two people were hurt when an Access-A-Ride van crashed into a Lower Manhattan subway station entrance early Monday, according to officials.
The vehicle slammed into the railing of the Chambers Street 1, 2, 3, A, C and E station at Church and Barclays streets just after 6 a.m., according to the FDNY and NYPD.
Two people were injured — one of whom went to NewYork-Presbyterian Lower Manhattan Hospital, and the other to Bellevue Hospital, the FDNY said.
Their injuries were minor, according to police.
“An investigation is underway to determine the facts and a preliminary assessment has uncovered no mechanical condition that would account for the incident,” MTA spokesman Michael Cortez said in a statement. “We will continue to work with the NYPD on this matter.”
Scene from the accidentRobert MeceaOne customer was on board the Access-A-Ride van at the time, according to MTA sources.
It was unclear whether that person was among those injured, or whether any pedestrians were hurt.
The driver will be tested for drugs and alcohol, as is routine when these incidents occur, the sources said.
