The unemployed Army vet accused of stealing painkillers and gunning down four people at a Long Island pharmacy last week has been indicted in connection with the bloodbath, authorities said today.
The Suffolk County DA’s office said that David Laffer, 33, had been indicted, although the charges were not immediately made public.
Laffer will be arraigned at a date to be determined in Riverhead.
Laffer had originally been arrested on charges of first-degree murder and resisting arrest.
Laffer’s lawyer, Mary Elizabeth Abbate, said she expected the charges to be upgraded to four first-degree murder counts, gun possession and robbery.
The shooting occurred on Father’s Day at Haven Drugs in Medford after Laffer allegedly walked into the store, shot and killed the clerk, stole the drugs and killed three other people before fleeing.
Laffer is currently being held without bail.
Laffer’s wife, Melinda Brady, 29, was also arrested and is accused of driving the getaway car.
Brady has said in a police report that while they plotted the robbery, killing was never part of the plan.
A source said Brady may be cooperating with prosecutors after she waived her right to be released when she was not indicted by a grand jury in a timely manner.
She is slated to appear before a judge on July 15.
Meanwhile, Suffolk County cops and town workers are using a crane to claw out muck from two storm drains on the street in front of Laffer’s Medford home.
Cops think he may have stashed evidence in the drains, and they’re combing through the debris on tarps on the street, possibly looking for parts of his gun or the disguise he wore.
(Defense lawyer Mary Elizabeth) Abbate, when asked what they might be searcing for, said: “I have absolutely no idea.”
