‘Addams’ home sale
It’s not creepy, spooky or altogether ooky, but the home where cartoonist Charles Addams created his ghoulish family is up for sale.
The three-story home in Westfield, NJ, was one of five residences occupied by Addams before his 1988 death. The asking price is $839,000.
Addams, who was born in Westfield, moved into the Elm Street home when he was 8, and lived there for 27 years. While living in the home in 1938, Addams drew his first cartoon for The New Yorker that featured the quirky characters — Gomez, Morticia, Pugsley, Thing and Lurch — who went on to become the stars of a 1960s TV series, two movies and a current Broadway musical.
Some 1,300 of his cartoons appeared in The New Yorker over a half-century.
