Adelphi honors quintet
Five youth advocates were honored for their work with one of the borough’s oldest college preparatory day school when Adelphi Academy held its annual awards ceremony in Coney Island.
The accolades capped the Bay Ridge school’s President’s Gala and Silent Auction at Gargiulo’s Restaurant on West 15th Street and Surf Avenue, where President Dr. Roy Blash led the May 1 fund-raiser.
The honorees were: Joan Harrington, founder and director, Educational Advocacy Service, “The Philip David Stone ‘65 Educator of the Year Award”; Michael Allegretti, former senior advisor on US policy, The Climate Group, “The Alumni Award for Distinguished Service”; Chester Oszustowicz, Class of ‘99, junior vice president, Bay Ridge Automotive Corporation, “The Alumni Award for Distinguished Service”; Jeff Samaha, stage manager/director at NBC, and founder and executive producer of Ridge Chorale, “The Spirit of Adelphi Award”; and Angelo Aponte, secretary, New York State Senate, “The Russell Edward Bonanno Lifetime Achievement Award.”
Blash said the honorees were “as special and unique” as Adelphi Academy, located on Ridge Boulevard, between 85th and 86th Streets.
