City businesses are becoming more senior friendly, with East Harlem florists, pharmacies and supermarkets among the first to join Age-Friendly New York City.

The initiative by the New York Academy of Medicine is part of a World Health Organization effort.

Participating businesses will offer chairs so that the weary, especially seniors, can rest while shopping or waiting to be served.

Other senior-friendly conveniences will include lower shelves, delivery service and larger type on printed material.

Many city businesses identify older adults as their most loyal customers, said academy policy associate Dorian Block.
