A New York City activist is auctioning off his 14-inch ponytail to benefit a temporary HIV/AIDS clinic in Haiti.
Charles King is president and chief executive of Housing Works in Manhattan. The organization provides housing, health care, meals, case management, counseling and job training. It helps thousands of homeless or low-income New Yorkers living with HIV/AIDS.
King will sell his trademark, 14-year-old ponytail at a Feb. 23 charity event. Tickets to “Shear Madness” are $75, $120 and $240.
The highest bidder will do the honors with the scissors.
Attendees also can bid to decide King’s new hairstyle.
The temporary clinic in Port-au-Prince replaced facilities destroyed by the earthquake.
