It’s a dog-gone shame.
Two poodles belonging to a sick nurse who spent five days at Ground Zero were snatched from his parked Jeep last month — and haven’t been seen since.
“I’m heartbroken,” said Rich Hernandez, 45, an emergency-room nurse who used to work for St. Vincent’s Hospital and was part of a rescue team sent to the Twin Towers on 9/11.
“Mon-fis and Zou-Zou are a huge part of my life, I love them like I love my children.”
The dogs, who were not microchipped, each cost $2,000 when Hernandez bought them five years ago. Mon-fis, a male, needs daily pain medication for a prior injury, Hernandez said.
The pedigreed toy poodles went missing at around 5 p.m. on Dec. 6, Hernandez said. He’d driven into Manhattan from his home in Howard Beach, Queens, for an appointment at an East Village hospital.
