Officials have issued an air quality advisory for metropolitan New York City and Long Island.
It’s in effect until 11 p.m. EDT Monday.
Authorities say summer heat can lead to the formation of ground level ozone, a major component of smog.
It can especially affect young children, those who work or exercise outdoors, and those who have respiratory disease, such as asthma.
Ozone levels tend to be highest in the afternoon to early evening.
