US airlines have already canceled more than 5,400 flights for Monday night and Tuesday as the Northeast prepares to get walloped by Winter Storm Stella.

That includes more than 1,800 flights coming into and out of New York City area airports: 462 at JFK, 522 at LaGuardia, and 835 at Newark, according to the web site FlightAware.

Some airlines are issuing travel waivers to affected flyers.

The storm is expected to dump up to 20 inches on the Big Apple and surrounding areas.
