A dance-coach-to-the-stars who trained Al Pacino for his unforgettable tango scene in the flick “Scent of a Woman” says a competitor box-stepped on him by stealing two of his best workers.
Paul Pellicoro says in a Manhattan lawsuit that he trained employees Rachel Greene and Lyman Heung at his DanceSport studio on West 34th Street for weeks to master salsa, ballroom and Latin dance.
Greene and Heung signed noncompete agreements that barred them from working for rivals in Manhattan, Pellicoro’s suit says.
Greene, who was hired in July 2011, quit last January, saying she was going to become a high-school science teacher, and Heung, who was hired in November 2013, left two months later, ostensibly to pursue an off-Broadway career, the suit alleges. A short while later, the pair ended up at competitor Dance With Me, the suit says.
Dance With Me not only poached Pellicoro’s staff, it also swiped his customers, according to court papers.
Shortly after his two workers moonwalked out the door, two students who spent more than $30,000 on lessons at DanceSport went to the competing studio, the suit says.
Pellicoro, whose clients also have included Robert De Niro, the late James Gandolfini and soap star Susan Lucci, is suing Dance With Me and his former workers for unspecified damages.
A lawyer for the defendants declined to comment because she had not seen the suit.
