Prosecutors today painted the ex-con who went on a killing spree aboard a Queens bus as a paranoid lunatic who thought he was being pursued by nameless stalkers.

Damel Burton, 34, was arraigned in Queens court on charges of murder, assault and weapons possession — as court papers revealed the depth of his delusional, deadly impulses.

“Ever since September, he feels that he is being followed by people who are out to get him,” the court papers quoted detectives saying of Burton, who just finished serving seven years in prison for robbery.

He believes the illusory stalkers “know the victims of the people he has robbed,” the detectives said. “People have been trying to get him wherever he goes.”

Yesteday morning, however, the maniac decided he’d had enough, and that “today was going to be the last day that he was going to feel threatened,” court papers said.

Prosecutors said Burton — without provocation — first turned his illegal gun on his girlfriend’s son, Keith Murrell, 18.

He then cooly hopped aboard the Q111, where he mercilessly gunned down Home Depot worker Marvin Gilkes, 36 — a recent emigre from Jamaica — and wounded dad of three and healthcare worker Jojuan Lispey, 29.

“When he was on the bus, he saw this guy at the door, one guy sitting and a Spanish guy,” the documents said. “He felt that there were following him and that something was going down so he pointed the gun at the guy at the door and shot him once in the back.

“He then shot the guy that was sitting… They were trying to get him and he has never seen them before.”

Bus driver David Rose, 57, likely spared further carnage when he brought the bus to a halt and herded passengers out through the front door.

Rose’s son, Dwayne, 25, said his dad was stunned by the violence.

“He hasn’t said anything about it,” he said. “We’re all trying not to talk about it. We’re just trying to comfort him.”

At Jamaica Hospital, Lispey was slowly recovering from his gunshot wound to the face.

“He’s going to be okay,” said his sister Sonia Lipsey, 43, who flew in from Detroit. “He’s a fighter.”
