An American citizen and suspected al Qaeda goon who allegedly helped build explosives used in a failed 2009 suicide attack on an American base in Afghanistan is facing new, upgraded charges.

A federal indictment in Brooklyn charges Texas-born Mohanad Mahmoud Al Farekh with conspiring to murder US nationals and conspiring to use a weapon of mass destruction.

Farekh, 30, is scheduled for arraignment on the new charges Thursday in Brooklyn federal court.
