NORTH BERGEN, N.J. — Amtrak has cleared equipment that closed one of the two rail tunnels leading in and out of New York City.

The machine that does track maintenance derailed in the northbound Hudson River tunnel Thursday. That left only one tunnel for trains to use.

Amtrak spokesman Cliff Cole says passengers can expect residual delays. Amtrak trains were running up to 30 minutes behind schedule between Manhattan and Trenton.

NJ Transit’s Northeast Corridor and North Jersey Coast Line trains have been delayed by 30 to 60 minutes in and out of New York’s Penn Station.

Midtown Direct trains are running to and from Hoboken, where PATH is honoring NJ Transit tickets.

Buses also will accept NJ Transit rail tickets.
