PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Amtrak is resuming passenger rail service between Boston and New York, but Rhode Island is being left out of the loop.

Amtrak suspended service between the cities for two days this week because of flooding in Rhode Island, and is continuing to monitor conditions there.

But access to Rhode Island’s T.F. Green Airport from Interstate 95 is being restored. Amy Kempe (KEMP’), a spokeswoman for Gov. Don Carcieri (kuh-CHEHR’-ee), says the connector road that had been flooded is expected to open around noon Friday.

An Amtrak spokeswoman tells The Providence Journal that three round trips will run between New York and Boston on Friday by rerouting through Springfield, Mass.

High-speed Acela Express service will be available between New Haven, Conn. and New York.
