Andrew Cuomo was grilled over his administration’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic — including an infamous mandate that forced infected patients into nursing homes.

The House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic questioned the ex-New York governor Tuesday about the “unscientific guidance” that led to the deaths of thousands of senior citizens.

The COVID subcommittee conducted a closed-door transcribed interview with Cuomo in June, during which the governor came across as “shockingly callous,” COVID Committee Chair Brad Wenstrup (R- Ohio) said.

The former governor faced tough questions about alleged deflation of the COVID nursing home death toll and his $5 million book deal.

Wenstrup said he was “disappointed” with Cuomo’s testimony, calling him the governor “who refused to admit” he did anything wrong. “There appears to be no soul-searching from you governor,” Wenstrup said. “Just doubling down.”

Janice Dean says she burst into tears after Rep. Rich McCormick apologized on Cuomo's behalf

By Josh Christenson

Janice Dean, who lost both of her in-laws during the first few weeks of the pandemic, said she burst into tears when Rep. Rich McCormick finally apologized on Cuomo’s behalf — since the former governor refused to do so.

“He never looked at us. He never acknowledged us,” Dean told The Post. “I suppose I should have anticipated that, but there was never any humanity from him from the very beginning, and I think that that is his greatest downfall, is that he has no humanity whatsoever. He cares about himself and nobody else.”

Had Cuomo apologized, she said, “at the very beginning, expressed remorse, met with families, wrote condolence cards, made a phone call — instead of writing a $5 million book about himself — we wouldn't be here.”

By Josh Christenson

The Republican chair also ripped the "Luv Guv" for not living up to his name.

"When you become a celebrity because of your advice on a matter," Wenstrup said, reminding him of his responsibility as a leader.

"You were, after all, the Luv Guv," Wenstrup told Cuomo, referencing his fall from grace since being one of the most-celebrated Democratic politicians for his press conferences.

Chairman Wenstrup declares Cuomo 'refused to admit' he did anything wrong

By Josh Christenson

Wenstrup said he was "disappointed" with Cuomo's testimony, calling him the governor "who refused to admit" he did anything wrong.

"This isn't a trial," he said raising his voice. "This is about trying to be better in the future, so that some of the people sitting right here today who lost loved ones in the nursing homes don't have to experience that again."

"There appears to be no soul-searching from you governor," he added. "Just doubling down."

"We admitted we were wrong ... that's how its supposed to work," Wenstrup also said, noting his responsibility for various policies while pointing out he had never engaged in partisan attacks, unlike Cuomo.

"Governor, the buck is supposed to stop with you in your state," he said.

Republican member apologizes for Cuomo after ex-gov refuses

By Josh Christenson

A Republican panel member apologized to families who lost loved ones to COVID-19 in New York after the ex-governor refused.

"I'll say I'm sorry," said Rep. Rich McCormick (R-Ga.), another doctor on the subcommittee. "Because people were put in nursing homes [and] there weren't tests because there weren't enough testing facilities."

This is the second time a GOP pol has tried to goad Cuomo into apologizing to the families. He has declined both times.

MTG claims Cuomo was 'thanking China' while having spy working for him

By Josh Christenson

Cuomo has been accused of "thanking China" while having one under his employment as an aide.

"You were thanking the Chinese government while you had a Chinese spy working for you," Greene said, pointing to an X post from the former governor thanking a Beijing dignitary.

"Are you either the dumbest tool of the Chinese government, or did you know for a fact that you were being used," she said, pointing to her reading of the Linda Sun indictment and Cuomo's social media posts.

"Read a lot about you too, congresswoman," Cuomo shot back.

Cuomo calls COVID vaxx rollout, which occurred under Biden, 'painfully slow'

By Josh Christenson

Cuomo claimed the vaccine rollout was "painfully slow" and mismanaged — another attempt to blame the federal government for outcomes his state suffered during the pandemic.

Though he hit Trump earlier in the hearing, Cuomo did not note that it was the Biden administration that presided over vaccine distribution in early 2021.

Hochul will comply with House subpoena for Cuomo pandemic records: spokesperson

By Vaughn Golden

A spokesperson for Gov. Kathy Hochul says her office will comply with a House subpoena for more records related to the Cuomo administration’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“While today’s action is surprising, given the Subcommittee’s previous comments expressing appreciation for the State’s prompt and extensive cooperation, we fully intend to comply with the law in this matter,” a spokesperson for Hochul wrote in a statement Tuesday.

Select committee chairman Brad Wenstrup said he was subpoenaing the administration for records it has yet to turn over related to their investigation.

“The truth,” Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks told the Post when asked what specific documents the committee was looking for.

Committee Chairman Wenstrup scolds top Oversight Democrat Raskin over allotted time

By Josh Christenson

Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic Chairman Brad Wenstrup (R-Ohio) cut off Cuomo and scolded the top Oversight Democrat, Rep. Jamie Raskin, for apparently speaking out of turn.

Raskin (D-Md.) claimed he was asking for a point-of-order to determine whether Cuomo would be allowed time to finish his responses — even when the clock allotting five minutes for each question-and-answer session runs out.

Both Raskin and Wenstrup raised their voice as they argued back and forth, before the chairman restored order and allowed the next panel member to begin questioning.
