Not so fast!

Gov. Cuomo yesterday slammed the brakes on the Port Authority’s planned massive fare and toll hikes, calling the politically toxic proposal a “nonstarter” and saying it was a terrible time to raise charges on area bridges and tunnels.

“Is this a good time to be raising tolls? No,” Cuomo said.

Cuomo — along with New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie — can veto the toll hikes.

“The proposal is a nonstarter for obvious reasons, and we will now look at what the need for the revenue is,” said Cuomo.

Christie on Monday tore into a slew of current and former politicians — including Mayor Bloomberg — for not reining in rebuilding costs at the World Trade Center.

Under the PA plan, round-trip cash tolls would jump $8 to $15 next month, and climb to $17 in 2014. E-ZPass round-trip tolls would increase by $4, to $12, come September, then jump to $14 in 2014.
