Apparently they didn’t get the memo about the most popular app in the world.

Chinatown vendors nabbed for selling counterfeit “Angry Birds” (left) T-shirts claim they didn’t realize they were breaking the law or that the popular meme was a copyrighted game, Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer charged in a letter to Police Commissioner Ray Kelly and the city Department of Consumer Affairs.

“Vendors complained that they were unaware of the ‘Angry Birds’ franchise or were unaware that the ‘Angry Birds’ merchandise within their store came from an illicit source,” Stringer, state Sen. Daniel Squadron and Councilwomand Margaret Chin wrote in the letter to the city last week.

The Democratic lawmakers urged the city to translate regulations into Chinese and other languages, and inform vendors about the latest counterfeit products on the market to protect them from accidentally breaking the law.
