Heartbroken friends and family said a painful final goodbye yesterday to the Staten Island teen who killed herself after a break-up and vicious campaign of cyberbullying by her classmates.
Many of the roughly 100 mourners who packed St. Ann’s Church blasted those who made the cruel attacks that had a hand in driving Amanda Cummings, 15, to jump in front of a bus on Dec. 27.
“I think bullying should become a crime,” said Amanda’s friend, Jessica Defazio, 19. “ I think they should be charged and arrested. I think that it’s just as bad as hitting someone. It should be like assault.”
Cops said they were investigating Cummings’ death to see if any of the hurtful Facebook and text messages aimed at the teen rose to the level of a crime.
Another factor in her death was a recent break-up with a boyfriend.
After her funeral yesterday, many of her friends called for the bullying to stop.
“I just want all the talking on Facebook to end. I want all the cyberbullying to stop,” said mourner Joey Demato.
“They should think about what they’ve done, seeing how so many people are grieving over her death,” added pal Amanda Kuzar, 15. “That they should think first before they open their mouths.”
