Roughly three dozen pro-Israeli activists protested a controversial Brooklyn College event that debated sanctions against the Jewish state last night.

Co-sponsored by the school and a group called “Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions,” the discussion drew 300 spectators and incited shouting matches between supporters and critics of Israel outside an assembly hall at about 8 p.m.

“I believe BDS is anti-Semitic by promoting the one-state solution, where they only believe in an Arab-Muslim state, and not a Jewish state, so that in itself is anti-Semitic,” said protester Melanie Goldberg, 21.

Several City Council members had blasted the event.

But Mayor Bloomberg said that the forum was protected by free speech, and that its critics should “apply to a school in North Korea.”
