Facing a storm of criticism, a newly minted city councilman who practices a “neo-heathen” religion apologized for how he characterized Greek Orthodox Easter celebrations as he discussed animal sacrifices in his own faith.

The move by Councilman Dan Halloran, a Republican who captured a Queens district straddling Bayside, came after he explained the practice of “blood sacrifice” to The Post in yesterday’s editions.

In a written statement, Halloran said he “inadvertently offended” Greek Orthodox, who have a sizable community in his new district, by comparing practices of animal sacrifice in Theodism to an Easter feast.

“I think it is vitally important that my constituents know I respect them and their faiths and traditions, as they do mine,” he said. “Accordingly, I apologize to his eminence Archbishop Demetrios and to all those of the Greek Orthodox faith or other faiths that might have taken offense.”
