A gunman tried to rob a man for his phone in Central Park Saturday — only to give it back and and apologize because it wasn’t the one he was looking for, the victim told The Post.
Cops were out in full force following the incident, which happened around 7:50 a.m. at East 106th Street and East Drive, police sources said.
The thief fled the scene after handing the phone back to the victim. William FarringtonThe victim said he stopped by the lake for a smoke when the bandit, armed with a 9mm Glock, came up from behind him said, “Yo,yo give me the phone!”
The victim handed over his device, but it wasn’t good enough for the would-be crook.
“This wasn’t the phone I was looking for,” the thief allegedly said before giving it back to the stunned victim and apologizing.
The suspect then ran out of the park at 106th Street and Fifth Avenue, the victim said.
NYPD aviation was among the units on the scene. The perp is believed to be about 26 years old, and was last scene wearing dark pants and a black hoodie.
