A proposal to turn the vacant Kingsbridge Armory in The Bronx into a major shopping center got the official red light yesterday in the City Council.
The council formally killed the project by overwhelmingly passing a measure to override Mayor Bloomberg’s veto of the body’s original decision to scrap the plan for Kingsbridge.
The main opposition stemmed from a dispute over whether retailers in the mall should have to offer a “living wage” of $10 an hour, plus benefits, rather than the minimum wage of $7.25.
The Related Companies, the project’s developer, opposed the higher pay, and Bloomberg sided with it.
The mayor said he was disappointed with the end result.
