A female jogger was attacked in Central Park by a would-be rapist who dragged her into a wooded area, authorities said yesterday.

The 29-year-old victim was running along East Drive near Lasker Pool at around 10:45 p.m. when Saul Alvarez, 21, came up from behind and grabbed her, putting one hand over her mouth, police said.

The two struggled as Alvarez tried to drag her toward the brush, police said.

Moments later, the victim fell to the ground and started screaming.

The attacker took off, leaving behind a piece of clothing at the scene, police said.

A passer-by who heard the victim’s screams ran over and called 911.

The woman was able to give police a description of the would-be rapist and Alvarez was arrested nearby a short time later.

He was charged with attempted rape and forcible compulsion, cops said.

The woman received hospital treatment for cuts to her face.

Lasker Pool recently opened for the summer season, but closes each day at 7 p.m. It serves as an ice-skating rink in the winter.
