There was a miraculous special delivery at Staten Island University Hospital’s burn unit yesterday — a baby boy, delivered to a woman badly injured in an arson fire last month.
Doctors said it was the first time they could remember a baby’s being born in the burn unit.
“It’s a very unique and special time,” said John Demoleas, a hospital spokesman.
“The burn-unit staff is a very special staff. They are always dealing with tragedy, and now we have an opportunity to deal with life. It’s very special and very positive. We are very excited.”
The baby weighed in at 4 pounds, 9 ounces and was delivered more than two weeks after the unidentified woman was brought in with serious injuries.
The mother was among more than 30 people injured when an arsonist set fire to a Brooklyn apartment building on 61st Street in Sunset Park.
Cops arrested 56-year-old Chiu Tsang and charged him with arson after officials reviewed video-surveillance tapes of the fire. john.doyle@nypost.com
