Brooklyn Assemblyman Dov Hikind, a fixture in the Assembly for 36 years, announced Wednesday he won’t seek re-election.

The only explanation he gave in a video posted on the Web was a desire to explore “new opportunities.”

The 67-year-old Hikind grew up in Williamsburg and was first elected to the Assembly in 1983.

Hikind’s 48th Assembly District includes Borough Park, home to one of the largest Orthodox Jewish communities outside Israel.
