Assemblyman Charles Barron is going to bat for the family of a notorious cop killer who died in prison over the weekend — calling him a “political prisoner” and “freedom fighter.”
Anthony Laborde, 62, a member of the Black Liberation Army who gunned down NYPD Officer John Scarangella in 1981 as he sat in his patrol car in St. Albans, Queens, died while serving a life sentence.
State officials say autopsy results are pending, but Barron is demanding answers for the family.
“I’m very suspicious. He’s a freedom fighter and a political prisoner,” Barron said.
