A 30-year-old man and a 5-year-old child are dead after their SUV collided with a box truck on the upper roadway of the George Washington Bridge shortly before 9 p.m. Wednesday, according to Port Authority officials.

A GMC Acadia with New Jersey plates carrying five people — a female in her 30s, a male in his 30s, a 70-year-old woman, a 5-year-old and an infant — struck the rear of the truck as it was stopped in traffic on the upper-level, eastbound lane of the bridge on the New York side.

In addition to the two dead, the other three in the SUV were injured. No one in the box truck was hurt.

The victims were taken to Columbia Presbyterian Hospital, where the 5-year-old and the male in his 30s were declared dead, according to Port Authority officials.

Port Authority Police were on scene conducting an accident investigation. The upper roadway remained closed.
