ATLANTIC CITY — America’s first boardwalk is also its best, according to National Geographic, which has named Atlantic City’s Boardwalk No. 1 in the nation — followed by Coney Island’s.
National Geographic calls AC’s “the grandfather of boardwalks.”
Myrtle Beach, SC, came in third, followed by Ocean City, Md., Venice Beach, Calif., Rehoboth Beach, Del., Santa Cruz, Calif., Cape Cod’s Sandwich Boardwalk, Virginia Beach and Wildwood, NJ.
Atlantic City’s Boardwalk was built in 1870 as a way to keep beachgoers from tracking sand into oceanfront hotels.
