Aussies a NY tour de force
Aussies are New Yorkers’ best mates.
Tourists from Down Under are spending more money in the Big Apple and visiting longer than most foreigners — and the city is actively marketing to them, according to Crain’s NY.
“The Australian visitor is intrepid,” said Chris Heywood, a spokesman for NYC & Company. “They love all things NYC . . . They love name-brand clothes, they love electronics, they love all the shopping opportunities on Fifth Avenue.”
About 533,000 Aussies visited the Big Apple last year, making them the fifth largest foreign-income producer for the city.
The average Australian tourist spends $2,679 during a visit to the city, Heywood said, or about $300 a day.
