ALBANY — Five-year-olds whose parents intend to send them to city public schools will automatically be signed up for kindergarten starting in 2013-14, under a bill signed into law yesterday by Gov. Cuomo.

Parents of kindergartners — who until now had not been assured a spot — can opt out, and the law won’t apply to private schools or kids who are home-schooled.
