Update: The boy’s mother has since been charged with falsifying a police report after cops say she lied about the bat attack.
A baby boy is clinging to life in The Bronx after an attacker tried to strike his dad with a bat — but hit the infant in the head instead, a police source said Tuesday.
Two-month-old Michael Hodge was in a harness strapped to his dad’s chest on Noble and Story avenues in the Bronx around 12:15 a.m. Tuesday when two men wearing hoodies jumped out of a silver Toyota Camry with bats, the source said.
The baby’s father, Mel-Quan Hodge, 21, tried to shield the boy with his arm but the infant was hit — and suffered a “severe brain injury,” a police source said.
Hodge had been walking to a Rite Aide with his wife, the baby and his 1-year-old daughter, the police source said. The dad suffered a fractured arm.
The baby’s mom, Daphany Sanders, 22, and the little girl were not seriously injured.
