‘Baby stealer’ indicted
The “fake mom” accused of snatching a newborn from a Manhattan hospital and raising the girl as her own was indicted yesterday on a federal kidnapping charge.
Ann Pettway — who told the FBI that she swiped Carlina White in 1987 after suffering several miscarriages — faces up to life in prison if convicted.
Pettway, 49, was busted last month after telling White, now 23, that she had been given to the suspect by a drug-addicted woman.
White then found one of her baby pictures on a missing-children Web site and tracked down her real parents.
The family had a joyful reunion, but real mom Joy White said last week that her long-lost daughter turned on her folks after learning they had spent a $750,000 negligence settlement from Harlem Hospital.
