KATONAH, N.Y. — A relative has been accused of stabbing two young girls she was baby-sitting at a home across the street from Martha Stewart.
Authorities went to the house on Girdle Ridge Road in Katonah, N.Y. shortly before 9:30 p.m. yesterday after receiving a 911 call.
An officer saw a woman outside the house when he arrived and took her into custody. He found two sisters ages 7 and 9 with multiple stab wounds on the kitchen floor.
Police said the girls were taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Authorities have charged 39-year-old Lisa Turkki of East Syracuse, N.Y., with two counts of assault.
Police told The Journal News that Turkki is a relative who was baby-sitting the girls.
She was arraigned in Bedford Town Court and taken to Westchester County Jail. No information about an attorney for Turkki was immediately available. A phone call to her home was not returned.
A message left at the Girdle Ridge Road residence was also not returned.
Stewart has owned a 153-acre estate on Girdle Ridge Road since 2000.
