The city is seeking 30-second audition tapes from potential emcees for a new public-service channel for the backseat televisions in every taxi.

The new NYC Channel, which will include restaurant profiles, recycling tips and job listings, will be an improvement, says the Taxi & Limousine Commission.

But passengers like Peter Criswell said they’d still rather ride in peace.

“I take cabs all the time — the first thing I do when I get in is turn that screen off,” Criswell said.
