Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa ripped teachers unions yesterday at the first meeting of a coalition of elected officials, including Mayor Bloomberg, aimed at reducing political partisanship.

Villaraigosa, a Democrat, told the group No Labels at Columbia University that both parties need to rethink traditional alliances. He singled out teachers unions, accusing them of blocking reform.
