He wants to be a judge — but he can’t pass the bar.
Richard Montelione, who’s running for Civil Court judge in Brooklyn, is in hot water after supporters offered a discount on alcohol to anyone who helped put him on the ballot.
Matthew McMorrow, head of Brooklyn’s Lambda Independent Democrats, enticed the thirsty to a recent Park Slope event with a Facebook invite promising “drink specials for all who sign” a ballot petition.
“LID will pay $1 towards your drink for your signature,” McMorrow wrote. “It’s that simple.”
The only problem is it’s against state election law, say good-government advocates.
“To prompt someone to participate in the Democratic process with a drink is atrocious,” said Dick Dadey, head of Citizens Union. “It’s a sad indictment, and it’s illegal.”
Montelione, who’s running against Lara Genovesi, said he had no prior knowledge of the invitation.
“My campaign and I had nothing to do with it,” he said.
McMorrow described the move as “a mistake.”
“We posted that by accident,” he said.
