A computer technician has admitted using a three-month stint at a New York bank to steal 2,000 other employees’ identities, and then using their ID’s for years to loot about $1 million from charities, prosecutors said yesterday.
The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office said yesterday that Adeniyi Adeyemi pleaded guilty to computer-tampering and other charges. They carry a potential 25 years in prison.
He’s due to be sentenced July 21, and has agreed to forfeit about $468,000.
His lawyer didn’t immediately return a call.
Prosecutors say Adeyemi used the stolen identities to open bank accounts as coffers for money he covertly transferred from charities that released banking information to make donations easier.
