The owner of Brooklyn’s new Barclays Center yesterday withdrew a lawsuit it had lodged against the city over the arena’s tax assessment, claiming it filed the legal paperwork by accident.

A subsidiary of Forest City Ratner said in a letter to the city that the attempt to fight a $741 million arena assessment was a mistake.

“In challenging the assessments on Forest City properties, petitions on its Arena and [adjacent sites] were inadvertently included. Forest City has instructed our attorneys to discontinue these petitions immediately,” the subsidiary wrote in a letter to the City Law Department.

The suit was filed in Brooklyn Supreme Court last month and challenged the city Finance Department’s assessment that valued the arena at $741 million was inflated by some $630 million.
