A lost and doomed baby humpback whale washed up on an East Hampton beach yesterday morning.

“There’s just not much we can do in a situation like this,” said Chuck Bowman of the marine mammal rescue program at the Riverhead Foundation.”Without its mother, it’s starving.”

Bowman said that his crew would stay with the whale, found several hundred feet off of Main Beach, until it dies and then conduct a necropsy.
