Beep flips on transit hub
What a difference four years and a mayoral election can make.
Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer in 2008 called the Fulton Street transit hub a project of “monumental importance” and demanded it move ahead “without further delay.”
But yesterday, in a speech at the Association for a Better New York, he questioned why the MTA was “throwing precious dollars at projects like the Fulton Street station in lower Manhattan.”
He added, “That station is costing taxpayers $1.4 billion and will do nothing to add capacity when work finally ends in 2014.”
His spokeswoman, Audrey Gelman, noted the cost of the project has mushroomed by $600 million since 2008.
